Judging Seminar

It's not a tournament unless you have judges. In order to have a good tournament, we need good judges.

Master Zhen began judging in Utah Karate tournaments in 1992.

July 19, 2008

Push Hands Seminar

The basics are important. Technique is vital. But strategy creates winners.

This seminar will incorporate more fighting skills and strategies to improve the Push Hands ability of all students.

July 26, 2008

SCM Summer Push Hands Tournament
In Utah, Master Zhen was Chairman of the AAU Amateur Athletic Union's, Chinese Martial Arts division. This provided Master Zhen into the national sport of tournament Karate and the need for improved Push Hands RULES. The AAU was anxious to review Master Zhen's Push Hands Rules and is hopefully incorporating some of the revisions we suggested.

Push Hands
Seminar
spacer

Shaolin Chi Mantis employs STATIONARY PUSH HANDS rules. If you lift a foot off the ground -- the opponent gets a point.

More skill than power, Push Hands enables students to improve each other. By giving feedback to your partner/opponent, they can improve their skills which necessitates everyone to improve...

Judging Seminar

Even if you are a Kung Fu school, and even if you have Push Hands competitions -- it will be necessary for all Black Belt Masters / Shifu to attend the Judging Seminar in preparation of the upcoming tournament.

Judging is a very difficult skill. I would rather perform than judge because you must give every competitor equal and TOTAL FOCUS. This is tiring for me, especially since I have to think more when judging Karate stylists.

According to Kung Fu concepts, many standard Karate moves and stances are COMPLETELY WRONG and sometimes unhealthy.

However, each judge, no matter what style they are, must judge every competitor by the competitor's style criteria.

Sep. 20, 2008

Push Hands Seminar

Sometimes we just learn and practice by doing. Sometimes this seminar includes Daoist concepts that utilize the directions and powers of the universe.

NO GRABBING, no punching, no kicking, and no joint locks, may take some of the bite out of our Tai Chi, but allows more fun and evens out the differences between competitors more.

Sep. 27, 2008

SCM & TCY Push Hands Championship

Shaolin Chi Mantis & Tai Chi Youth have been 'throwing' tournaments since 1994 when Master Zhen got frustrated at the lack of opportunities for his students to compete and develop their Tai Chi and Push Hands skills.

This CHAMPIONSHIP has the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners waiting until the end of the tournament to defend their titles.

Master Zhen to Record Album, Tai Chi Magic

It's done. It was.

Then we got some software to clean up some of the analog tape noise from the original Utah recordings. So now we have to remix the entire album.

Soon!
